Movement Sessions

The GYROTONIC® Method

The GYROTONIC® Method is an original and unique movement method that addresses the entire person by opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion, and improving strength and movement efficiency. With Gyrotonic exercises, each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength, and flexibility. The Gyrotonic Method utilizes specialized equipment to guide, assist and challenge the exerciser. People from all walks of life take Gyrotonic classes, including fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens, accomplished athletes, and people recovering from an injury or living with a disability. Gyrotonic exercises help athletes improve their performance, and rehabilitation clients recover more quickly and fully post-injury.

GYROKINESIS® Exercise

The GYROKINESIS® Method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method that coordinates movement, breath and mental focus. The Gyrokinesis Method is practiced on a mat and chair without equipment. Without the feedback and guidance of equipment, participants in a Gyrokinesis class are more dependent on their own proprioception to explore movement sequences.

Hypopressives® Training

The HYPOPRESSIVE® techniques were created in Europe in the early 1980s with the goal of helping postnatal women prevent and recover from pelvic floor dysfunctions such as incontinence and prolapse. From the outset, the objective was to develop a global approach to core health through the creation of a conditioning technique that would benefit the whole core system, and eliminate the injuries caused by detrimental pressure to the pelvic floor (as is so often the case with traditional abdominal exercises).

The term ‘HYPOpressive’ refers to a decrease or reduction in pressure. This form of exercise reduces pressure to the thoracic, abdominal and pelvic cavities, where traditional exercises, abdominal training, gravity, as well as the majority of our daily activities are HYPERpressive – they increase intra-abdominal pressure.  It is not to say that doing these everyday activities are bad for us, in fact most of what we do - even walking - increases this internal pressure. What we need to address is how well our bodies are able to manage these pressures and prevent the onset of injury/dysfunction.

Manual Therapy

Osteopathy

Osteopathic Manual Therapy is a safe and effective patient-centered manual therapy which works in combination with the individual's own homeostatic mechanisms to help restore balance and optimal health. It works with the understanding that the way the body is able to function is inseparable from the way it is structured.

All aspects of the body must work together to maintain health, and the osteopathic approach is able to address the person as a whole to improve not only structure and therefore function but overall health and well-being. Osteopathic Practitioners support the body’s ability to restore and maintain health by using skilled palpation and manual techniques to influence muscles, joints, nerves, connective tissue, circulation, and internal organs.
